Washington Room

Antiques and contemporary folk art by Warren Kimball add to the early American allure.

Paintings and drawings of the first U.S. president blend with hand-stenciled walls in the folk art tradition. A mosaic fireplace and a quilt stitched in the pattern of a mariner’s compass warm the generous bedroom. Windows in the sitting room around a second fireplace open to views of the lawn, woods, and maple trees. Located on the first floor of the Main House, Washington offers the most space of all the rooms.

“The simplicity is functional, but it’s also meant to be idealized. This is not an environment for real life necessarily, but life perfected.”
