Red’s Room is named for Harry Sinclair Lewis, nicknamed Red from childhood, and one of the great American writers, the very first to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
He was married to Dorothy Thompson, one of our foremost journalists, so admired that in the late 1930s, she was the second most popular woman in America, trailing only a bit behind Eleanor Roosevelt.
They are the twin spirits of Twin Farms, and this property was once their country retreat. We have kept in mind their love of the countryside, their pleasure in luxury and elegance, their sophisticated sensibilities and their appreciation of all that is best in America, from its art to its heart. |
