Step inside and the space makes its intentions clear immediately. Stone. Timber. Two levels reaching toward vaulted, wood-beamed ceilings, with a custom chandelier hanging overhead like punctuation. Fireplaces — one in the living room, one in the bedroom — wait quietly for evening. A secluded deck looks out over the woods, the kind of view that earns its silence.

But it is the walls that tell you where you are.

Studio Cottage is home to a collection of genuine museum-caliber art. Roy Lichtenstein. Frank Stella. Jim Dine. David Bates. And there, at the foot of the stairs leading to the sleeping loft, David Hockney’s Image of Gregory — a lithograph and collage set in a double frame the artist himself designed. That the hand in the frame matches the hand in the image is a small and telling detail: art considered at every turn, not installed and forgotten. You pass it twice a day. You likely stop each time.

Nearby, Frank Stella’s Circuits; Pergusa III — a massive relief-printed etching and woodcut — commands the fireplace wall, its exuberant, colorful forms a foil for the bleached wood furniture.
